Explosive World War II Shell Discovered in Lviv

On April 3, a World War II-era artillery shell was discovered in Lviv, prompting a swift response from local emergency services to ensure public safety.

At 3:07 PM on April 3, emergency responders in the Lviv region received an urgent report regarding the discovery of a dangerous object in the city of Lviv. Passersby strolling in the vicinity of Lukasevich Street noticed a suspicious rusty item that raised concerns. It was later determined that the object was a 75-millimeter artillery shell, a remnant from World War II.

According to reports, a community rescue officer promptly arrived at the scene to identify the found munition. Following the identification, the area surrounding the shell was cordoned off with caution tape to prevent any potential dangers to citizens who might be nearby.

Specialists from the Pyrotechnic Unit of the Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Center 'Lviv' of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine took responsibility for the safe removal of the hazardous munition. After conducting all necessary procedures, the shell was destroyed in accordance with established protocols, ensuring the safety of the city's residents.

This incident occurs against the backdrop of numerous cases involving the discovery of explosive remnants from World War II. Notably, in the summer of 2025, pyrotechnicians had already removed 138 such items found on the premises of a private home in Lviv. This highlights that the danger associated with explosive remnants from past wars remains a pressing issue for contemporary society.

Authorities urge all citizens to remain vigilant and cautious if they notice suspicious objects that may pose a danger.
