Ukrainian Security Service Detains Russian Agent Planning Assassination of Employers' Federation Leader
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has successfully apprehended a Russian agent who was plotting to assassinate a leader of the Employers' Federation. This operation marks a significant achievement in the SBU's counterintelligence efforts to thwart a potential terrorist attack that could have incited panic among Kyiv residents.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the successful detention of a Russian agent who was preparing to carry out an assassination on one of the leaders of the Employers' Federation. This operation is a direct result of the SBU's counterintelligence efforts, which managed to prevent a terrorist act that could have caused widespread panic among the residents of Kyiv.
According to information provided by the SBU, the perpetrator planned to execute an explosion near the official's residence using a homemade bomb that was intended to detonate remotely. The explosion was scheduled for the morning when the intended victim would leave their apartment complex for work.
The investigation revealed that the preparation for this crime was undertaken by a resident of the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region. In the fall of 2025, this individual was recruited by an FSB officer specializing in conducting sabotage operations and terrorist acts within Ukraine. The counterintelligence unit has already identified the identity of this curator.
Following the directives of the Russian intelligence officer, the agent traveled to Kyiv, where he rented an apartment and began monitoring the movements and locations of the official. To ensure his anonymity, he regularly altered his appearance and clothing, coordinating the entire assassination preparation process through an anonymous chat in a messaging application.
During a search of the detained individual, a smartphone and other evidence were discovered, confirming his collaboration with Russian intelligence services. This evidence became a crucial element in the case, allowing the investigators to file charges against him.
SBU investigators have notified the detainee of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 2 of Article 111 (treason committed under martial law) and Part 2 of Article 15 in conjunction with Part 2 of Article 258 (completed attempt at terrorism). The perpetrator is currently in custody, facing the possibility of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Additionally, the curator of the agent has also been charged, with their actions similarly classified as a completed attempt at terrorism. The Security Service of Ukraine continues to take comprehensive measures to hold this individual accountable.
This incident further underscores the active presence of Russian intelligence services within Ukraine. As previously reported by Ukrinform, the SBU's counterintelligence unit also detained an engineer from a strategic defense plant in the Dnipropetrovsk region, who was spying for two Russian intelligence services: the FSB and military intelligence (GRU).
The Security Service of Ukraine urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may indicate a threat to the country's security. It is crucial for each of us to be aware and prepared to act in case of danger.
