Man in Kyiv Exposed for Assisting Foreigners in Legalizing Their Status in Ukraine for Money
The Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv has uncovered a man who, for a fee, assisted foreigners in legalizing their stay in Ukraine. The 49-year-old perpetrator registered foreigners at the residence of an acquaintance, creating the illusion of legality in their presence.
According to reports from Ukrinform, the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv has identified the activities of a man who was charging foreigners to help them legalize their status in Ukraine. The suspect, aged 49, was registering foreigners at the home of an acquaintance, which allowed him to create a façade of legality regarding their stay in the country.
As per the information provided by the police, the man organized the process of obtaining documents for foreigners at one of the district administrative service centers. Afterward, he directed his clients to the State Migration Service, where they allegedly received temporary residence permits through an expedited procedure. This way, the perpetrator created an illusion of legality and speed in addressing legalization issues.
For his services, the man charged payments in installments, indicating his intention to maximize profits from his illegal activities. Initially, he demanded 10,000 hryvnias, and after the documents were obtained, he requested an additional 1,500 dollars. These amounts suggest that the man aimed not only to assist foreigners but also to profit significantly from their need for legalization.
As a result of the investigation conducted by law enforcement, the suspect has been charged under part 3 of Article 362-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article stipulates liability for obtaining unlawful benefits for oneself or a third party by influencing the decision-making of a person authorized to perform state functions. According to the law, the man faces up to eight years of imprisonment with the confiscation of property.
It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of exposing individuals engaged in similar activities. As reported by Ukrinform, in February of this year, three individuals were detained for also assisting foreigners in legalizing their status in Ukraine through fictitious marriages with women from Odesa. This indicates that the problem of illegal legalization of foreigners in Ukraine remains relevant and requires close attention from law enforcement agencies.
Authorities are urging citizens to be cautious and not to trust dubious individuals who promise quick solutions to legalization issues. It is essential to remember that legal methods of obtaining documents are always safer and more reliable than attempts to use the services of fraudsters.
