An exhibition titled 'Easter Garden' showcasing the works of Angelika Rudnytska has opened in Kyiv at the 'Values' space, featuring 44 pieces from her long-term cycle 'Garden of Virtues' or 'Egg-Tree'.
In Kyiv, the 'Values' space has unveiled the exhibition 'Easter Garden', presenting the artistic creations of Angelika Rudnytska. This exhibition features 44 works that are part of the artist's long-term cycle known as 'Garden of Virtues' or 'Egg-Tree'. These pieces are crafted using a unique authorial technique that imparts a special texture and volume, thanks to the incorporation of various materials.
In her works, Angelika Rudnytska draws upon archaic symbols familiar from traditional egg painting, ceramics, and other forms of folk art. However, as the artist herself emphasizes, she does not aim to reproduce these symbols literally. Each of her pieces serves as a personal interpretation and a new reading of tradition, allowing viewers to see familiar images from a fresh perspective.
Commenting on her exhibition, Rudnytska noted that art today fulfills not only an aesthetic function but also a supportive role. 'We are currently in a challenging emotional time, where it can sometimes be difficult to even start painting. But art inspires us. People come, create, sing – and thus support one another. This is a form of art therapy and the charge of energy that we all need,' the artist stressed.
Rudnytska also shared her personal tradition of creating new works for Easter. Each year, she strives to reinterpret the symbol of the Easter egg through new images, moods, and her own state of being. This year, she mentioned that the process of creating a new piece has been challenging due to the complex emotional context; however, ideas are beginning to emerge, and a new work may still be completed before the holiday.
The 'Easter Garden' exhibition is an intimate project dedicated to Easter symbolism and the rethinking of Ukrainian traditions in contemporary art. The significance of this exhibition is heightened by the history of some of the works, which survived the Russian occupation in Kherson. These paintings were packed away and stored in a basement that turned out to be mined. According to the artist, only a miracle saved them from destruction.
Today, these works have returned to the public and are presented within a separate Easter exhibition. Previously, they were only displayed as part of larger exhibition projects, including abroad, and now have the opportunity to be appreciated in their hometown.
The 'Easter Garden' exhibition will run until April 16, and entry for visitors is free. This presents a wonderful opportunity for Kyiv residents and guests of the capital to enjoy the creativity of Angelika Rudnytska and immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Easter holidays.
