Explosions Rock Crimea as Russian Air Defense Engages Near Kacha and Belbek Airfields
On the night of April 2, 2023, multiple explosions were reported in Crimea, raising concerns among local residents. According to information provided by 'Public Crimea' citing Sevastopol's 'governor' Mikhail Razvozhayev, debris from drones fell in the region, although no injuries were reported.
In the early hours of April 2, 2023, Crimea experienced a series of explosions that alarmed local inhabitants. Reports from 'Public Crimea' referenced statements from Mikhail Razvozhayev, the so-called 'governor' of Sevastopol, indicating that instances of drone debris falling in the area had been recorded, but fortunately, there were no casualties.
Specifically, a private home in Balka Bermana was damaged, and grass caught fire in one of the affected areas. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze that resulted from the debris. It has also been reported that fragments fell in the grounds of the St. George Monastery park, while in the village of Polyushko, a piece from a downed drone penetrated the ceiling of a private residence, underscoring the dangers such incidents pose to local residents.
Air raid alerts were declared in Sevastopol at 19:45, with an all-clear sounding at 22:54. This indicates that the situation was quite tense, forcing local residents to seek shelter during the alerts.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that from 20:00 to 23:00 Moscow time, Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 148 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles over the Belgorod and Kursk regions, the Krasnodar Territory, as well as over Crimea and the Black Sea. This highlights the active combat operations in the region, necessitating continuous monitoring by Russian military forces.
In the vicinity of the Belbek and Kacha airfields in Sevastopol, Russian air defense systems were also operational. Drones were detected near Cape Fiolent, suggesting possible attempts to attack military installations. Residents in Kerch reported hearing explosions originating from the Sea of Azov, with similar sounds noted in Feodosia, Yevpatoria, and Dzhankoy. At 23:41, locals in Sevastopol witnessed a powerful explosion, further elevating the anxiety among the population.
Additionally, another explosion was heard along the coast of the Bakhchisaray district during the night, and before a drone flight in Simferopol, a 'very powerful explosion' was reported, causing alarm among residents. These events indicate an escalation in the situation in a region where active combat operations have been ongoing for an extended period.
Moreover, from 21:57 to 00:30, vehicular traffic across the Crimean Bridge was suspended, as reported by the occupation road center, indicating potential security threats on transportation routes.
An eyewitness who contacted the Telegram channel 'Crimean Wind' noted that in the area near Cape Fiolent, none of the Pantsir missile and artillery systems fired missiles at targets, instead only utilizing anti-aircraft shells, which may suggest the specific nature of combat operations in this situation.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported that explosions also occurred in Crimea on the night of April 2, resulting in parts of the peninsula losing electricity, as well as affecting the occupied territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. These events highlight the complex situation in the region, where combat operations continue to have serious consequences for the civilian population.
