Coordination Headquarters Warns of Increased Scams Amid Reports of Possible Prisoner Exchange

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has issued a critical warning for families of military personnel captured in conflict. As reported by the Ukrinform news agency, the headquarters urged citizens to exercise caution due to a rise in fraudulent activities linked to potential prisoner exchanges.

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has made an important announcement concerning the families of military personnel who have been captured. According to the Ukrinform news agency, in a post on Facebook, the headquarters called on citizens to be vigilant due to the increasing activity of scammers attempting to exploit the situation surrounding the potential exchange of prisoners of war.

The message indicates that following media reports about the possible activation of prisoner exchange processes, there has been a noticeable uptick in fraudulent actions targeting the families of defenders. Unknown individuals have been calling relatives of the captives, posing as officials or employees of institutions related to the detention facilities for military personnel in the Russian Federation. They offer to 'assist' in getting their loved ones included in exchange lists for a monetary reward, raising significant concerns.

The Coordination Headquarters emphasized that scammers often possess personal information about the families, such as names and addresses, which significantly enhances their credibility among victims. This makes their offers even more dangerous, as relatives may believe they are dealing with officials who can genuinely help them.

According to available information, such calls are not only made to families of those still in captivity but also to those whose loved ones have already been released. This indicates that scammers are attempting to exploit any opportunity to deceive people in difficult situations.

The Headquarters stressed that all processes related to the search, location, and release of prisoners of war are carried out exclusively by authorized state bodies. 'No intermediaries can influence the negotiation process,' representatives of the Headquarters noted, underscoring the importance of official communication channels.

Families of military personnel are urged to remain vigilant and not to trust unknown individuals who call with such offers. It is crucial not to provide money or personal information, as this could lead to serious consequences. In the event of receiving such calls, relatives should immediately contact the Coordination Headquarters and law enforcement agencies for assistance.

The Coordination Headquarters also reminded that any offers of 'help' for money regarding the release of prisoners of war are fraudulent. This important warning aims to protect families from potential financial losses and emotional trauma.

It is worth noting that earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that another prisoner exchange would take place within the month. This news has sparked hope among many families; however, it is essential to remain cautious and not fall victim to the schemes of scammers during this challenging time.
