Five Medics Injured in Kherson Due to Russian Attacks
On April 7, 2023, five medical professionals were injured in Kherson when Russian forces targeted an ambulance, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by healthcare workers in conflict zones.
On April 7, 2023, in Kherson, five medics suffered injuries as a result of an attack by Russian troops, who made the medical personnel a target for their hostile assault. This tragic incident occurred around 6:50 PM in the Dnipro district of the city, when Russian forces launched an attack on an ambulance that was transporting three doctors, along with two medical workers who were returning home after fulfilling their duties.
According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, three medics were severely injured in the strike: a 48-year-old woman and two men aged 24 and 42. All of them sustained serious injuries, including concussions, blast injuries, and closed traumatic brain injuries. The injured were promptly transported to a hospital, where they are receiving medical assistance. At the time of hospitalization, their condition was assessed as moderate.
Additionally, around 6:00 PM on the same day, two more medical workers, a 26-year-old male doctor and a 25-year-old female doctor, also fell victim to enemy shelling while returning home. They were diagnosed with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds. This incident serves as yet another example of the ruthless aggression faced by medical personnel in Ukraine, who risk their lives to aid those in need.
This situation underscores the daily dangers that healthcare professionals encounter in wartime conditions. They not only provide assistance to the injured but also become targets of attacks themselves. It is important to note that, according to international law, medical personnel have the right to protection during conflicts; however, the reality on the ground often tells a different story.
The war in Ukraine has been ongoing for over a year, during which numerous medical workers have fallen victim to violence. They continue to carry out their duties despite the risks associated with their profession. Many display incredible courage, working in conditions where their lives are under constant threat.
This incident further emphasizes the need for international support and protection for medical personnel in conflict zones. Authorities and international organizations must take action to ensure the safety of medics who save lives daily, despite the dangers that surround them.
