A serious accident occurred in France when a high-speed TGV train collided with a truck transporting military equipment, resulting in the death of the train driver and injuries to 27 passengers.
According to reports from Ukrinform, a severe accident took place in France when a high-speed TGV train collided with a truck carrying military equipment. The incident happened around 7 AM at a railway crossing on the Béthune-Lens line. This information was confirmed by the French National Railway Company (SNCF) through their social media channels.
BFMTV news channel reported that the train driver, who was approximately 50 years old, lost his life as a result of the collision. Additionally, 27 individuals sustained injuries. At the time of the accident, there were about 350 passengers on board the train, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
The SNCF confirmed that rail traffic between Béthune and Lens would be suspended until the end of the day. Transport Minister Philippe Tabaro has already headed to the scene, accompanied by the head and CEO of SNCF, Jean Castex, to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.
This accident comes amid other unfortunate incidents in the transportation sector. For instance, in January of this year, two high-speed passenger trains derailed in southern Spain, resulting in the deaths of at least 21 people and injuries to around a hundred others. These events underscore the critical importance of safety on railways and the necessity of adhering to all safety measures.
Images from the scene, published in the media, reveal the severity of the accident and the extent of the destruction. The situation continues to develop, and local authorities are working on investigating the causes of the incident. It is known that railway crossings often become sites of accidents, raising concerns among the public.
It is important to note that railway safety is crucial in preventing similar tragedies in the future. French authorities must take measures to improve infrastructure and ensure safety at railway crossings to avoid the recurrence of such incidents.
