Charity Evening 'The Word Does Not Remain Silent' Held in Chicago Honoring Outstanding Ukrainian Women

In Chicago, USA, a charity evening named 'The Word Does Not Remain Silent' was recently held, honoring outstanding Ukrainian women who have made a substantial impact on Ukrainian culture and literature. This event was an important occasion for the Ukrainian community, as it not only celebrated the memory of prominent Ukrainian women but also united the younger generation of Ukrainians in the United States.

The central theme of the evening revolved around the female voice that has shaped the Ukrainian spiritual tradition. The program was structured as a dialogue between generations, where the images of legendary authors such as Olena Pchilka, Natalia Kobrynska, Olga Kobylianska, Lesya Ukrainka, Olena Teliha, and Lina Kostenko 'met.' These figures embody resilience, inner freedom, and courage in the face of history, as emphasized by the event's organizers.

One of the unique aspects of this evening was that the leading roles were performed by representatives of the younger generation of Ukrainians in the USA. Anastasia Oliynyk transformed into Olena Pchilka, Olya Oliynyk became Lina Kostenko, Teresa Dunka embodied Lesya Ukrainka, Sofiika Buryadnyk presented Olga Kobylianska, Andzhelinka Sovych depicted Olena Teliha, and Samira Prokopiv took on the role of Natalia Kobrynska. These young artists not only showcased their talents but also brought a fresh perspective to the works of these remarkable Ukrainian women.

The musical atmosphere of the evening was created by the duet of Lyubov Lukashevich and Andriy Boychuk, students from StarKids USA, the ensemble Smile, and soloist Sofia Fraser. The production was crafted by a creative team led by Roksolana Prokopiv, Maryana Hamanyuk, Tetiana Dinka-Chaikivska, and Lana Polak. Thanks to their efforts, the event became not only a cultural milestone but also a true celebration of Ukrainian creativity.

An important aspect of the evening was its humanitarian component. As a result of the event, funds were raised and distributed in two directions: $1,300 was donated to the Protez Foundation to support injured Ukrainian soldiers, and another $1,300 was allocated as a symbolic gift for Lina Kostenko's birthday from the Chicago community in gratitude for her inspiring work. These contributions highlight the solidarity of the Ukrainian community with those in need of assistance amidst the war.

'It was a living breath of words and a meeting of hearts. A vast number of guests became co-creators of a space where truth resonated,' noted co-organizer Roksolana Prokopiv. Her words reflect the atmosphere of unity and support that prevailed at the event, as well as the desire of the youth to preserve the cultural code of their homeland, even while being thousands of kilometers away from it.

It is worth noting that recently, a photo exhibition by Howard Buffett titled 'Courage of a Nation' was also held at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago, further emphasizing the active involvement of the Ukrainian community in cultural life in the USA. These events demonstrate that Ukrainians, wherever they may be, always remember their history, culture, and heroes who inspire them to achieve new heights.
