Over $4,500 Raised for Ukrainian Armed Forces at Spiritual Concert in Chicago

A meaningful spiritual concert took place in Chicago, where attendees managed to collect over $4,500 for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This event, which has become a crucial occasion for the Ukrainian community, was organized by the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMM) and attracted the attention of many who care about the fate of Ukraine.

The central part of the concert's program featured the performance of the cantata "The Seven Last Words of Christ," composed by Ukrainian composer Myron Datsko. This musical piece, based on the words of Father Vasyl Mendrun, a Basilian priest, is dedicated to the last words of Jesus on the cross. The cantata was performed by the Glorious choir and a chamber orchestra, creating an unforgettable atmosphere of spirituality and deep emotions.

The evening's special prayerful ambiance was enhanced by Father Pavlo Drozdak, the pastor of St. Nicholas Cathedral, whose readings of spiritual texts accompanied the musical numbers. His heartfelt performance added even greater significance to the event, emphasizing the importance of spiritual communication during this challenging time for Ukraine.

Motrya Melnyk, the president of the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, noted that the Glorious choir is an integral part of the institute, which actively supports young talents. This underscores the importance of cultural activities within the Ukrainian diaspora and their influence on shaping new generations of artists.

The choir's director and conductor, Bohdana (Dana) Chepil, successfully united singers of varying skill levels around the project. Ms. Chepil is an active member of the Ukrainian community in Chicago, where she not only leads the choir at St. Nicholas Cathedral but also sings in the quintet "Prykarpatsky" and teaches at the Ukrainian Studies School. Her efforts significantly contribute to the development of Ukrainian culture abroad.

The concert had a strong humanitarian component, as all funds raised are intended to be donated to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Thanks to the generous donations from attendees, over $4,500 was raised, which will provide essential support for Ukrainian soldiers during this critical time.

At the conclusion of the evening, Father Roman Artymovych, the cathedral's pastor, expressed gratitude to the performers for bringing a "piece of Ukraine" and for the energy of the live performance, which helped attendees spiritually prepare for the Easter holidays. This highlights the importance of such events in strengthening connections among Ukrainians living abroad.

It is worth noting that recently, a literary and musical evening titled "The Word Does Not Be Silent. Dialogues Across Generations" was also held at the Ukrainian National Museum in Chicago. This event brought together young talents from the diaspora around the works of prominent Ukrainian writers and served as another platform for raising funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Such events demonstrate the importance of supporting one another and preserving cultural heritage, even while being far from the homeland.
