UK Expresses Readiness to Take Action on the Strait of Hormuz

On Thursday, April 2, during a virtual meeting focused on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that 40 countries are prepared to take necessary measures to restore maritime security in this strategically vital waterway. This information has been confirmed by CNN and the publication 'European Truth.'

During a press conference following the meeting, Cooper emphasized that Iran's 'reckless strikes' threaten international shipping and aim to undermine the global economy. She stated that the United Kingdom is firmly committed to taking all possible diplomatic, economic, and coordinated actions to restore normal shipping operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

The UK Foreign Secretary also highlighted that future measures could include cooperation with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to ensure the unhindered movement of vessels. 'We clearly understand that we need diplomatic pressure, economic pressure, as well as the work that military planners are separately conducting to ensure long-term maritime security once the conflict is over,' she added.

This statement from Cooper comes amid rising tensions in the region, where Iran has repeatedly engaged in aggressive actions that have raised concerns in the global community. She underscored that the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz is critically important for the global economy, as this route is one of the busiest in the world, through which a significant portion of the world's oil supplies pass.

Additionally, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his views on the situation, stating that the idea of unblocking the Strait of Hormuz through force is unrealistic. He emphasized that passage through the strait would be too dangerous unless it results from an agreement with Iran. Macron called for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, stressing the need to avoid escalation of violence.

In light of these events, U.S. President Donald Trump also weighed in, criticizing his allies for their reluctance to actively participate in U.S. efforts, particularly to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. Trump expressed his dissatisfaction, threatening to withdraw the U.S. from NATO if allies do not support his initiatives to ensure security in the region.

Thus, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, and the international community continues to seek ways to ensure maritime security and stability in the region. The UK, along with other countries, is prepared to take action to prevent further escalation of the conflict and protect its economic interests.
