Temporary Fueling Restrictions Implemented at Airports in Northern Italy Due to Supply Issues

Airports located in the Italian cities of Milan, Venice, Bologna, and Treviso have declared the implementation of temporary restrictions on the fueling of aircraft that operate commercial flights. These measures, which will last until April 9, are a response to the inadequate amount of fuel supplied by Air BP Italia. This information was reported by the EFE news agency on Saturday.

According to information received from the agency, a priority supply order for fuel has been established to ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential services. First and foremost, priority is given to medical flights, government flights, and routes with a duration exceeding three hours. At the same time, for all other commercial operators conducting flights from the airports of Venice, Treviso, and Bologna, a maximum limit of 2,000 liters of fuel per aircraft has been set.

In a technical notice circulated by the Venice airport, pilots are strongly advised to carefully calculate the necessary amount of fuel for their flights to avoid potential issues during operations.

Air BP Italia, the fuel supplier, has not provided specific reasons for the introduction of these restrictions. However, sources within the aviation industry indicate that logistical problems have been the main reason for the difficulties in supplying fuel to aircraft. This has raised concerns among carriers and passengers, as the restrictions may impact flight schedules and the availability of air travel.
