Defense Artificial Intelligence Center 'A1' to Become Full-fledged Hub - Ministry of Defense

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has announced the launch of a new defense artificial intelligence center named 'A1', which will operate as a comprehensive hub for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence technologies in the defense sector.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has officially announced the initiation of a new center for defense artificial intelligence, designated 'A1'. This center is set to function as a full-fledged hub aimed at advancing and integrating artificial intelligence technologies within the country's defense sector. According to Danilo Tsivok, the head of the center, the primary goal is to bring Ukraine closer to victory through innovations that encompass solutions for the battlefield as well as artificial intelligence for the internal needs of the Ministry of Defense and the broader defense ecosystem.

The 'A1' center aims to transform artificial intelligence into a tangible advantage on the battlefield by accelerating innovation cycles that encompass the entire process—from data analysis at the front lines to the implementation of new management tools and autonomous systems. Tsivok emphasized that the center's direct activities will include combat forecasting, the development of autonomous systems, the creation of new management tools, and the establishment of infrastructure for artificial intelligence.

"We are focusing on three main areas: our own development, research, and the practical implementation of artificial intelligence in combat conditions, internal processes, and research and development (R&D)," Tsivok highlighted. He also pointed out that an important task for the center will be to establish approaches to working with combat data, specifically regarding their quality, protection, standardization, and usage for training new systems. This will allow for the scaling of real combat experiences and their adaptation to new technologies.

The 'A1' center is being realized with the support of the British government and will leverage the unique Ukrainian experience, combining the deep domain expertise of military personnel with the rapid development of the national artificial intelligence industry. Information processing at the center will be based on open and legitimate data from the defense sector, adhering to strict security procedures.

The development strategy for the 'A1' center also includes active integration of the engineering community and businesses. "The center will be as open as possible to partnerships, joint development, and piloting projects right here in Ukraine. Due to the circumstances of the war, Ukraine has become a unique environment where solutions can be tested very quickly in real conditions," Tsivok noted, inviting both Ukrainian and international companies to cooperate in uniting efforts in the technological war.

It is important to recall that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is launching the first military technology competency center—Defense AI Center 'A1'—which will facilitate the rapid transformation of combat experience and frontline data into technological solutions, as well as accelerate the implementation of innovations within the armed forces. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the development of defense technologies in Ukraine, enabling the country to respond more effectively to modern challenges and threats.
