Trump Threatens 50% Tariffs on Countries Supplying Weapons to Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that countries supplying weapons to Iran will face immediate tariffs of 50% on all their imported goods to the United States. This declaration came on Tuesday, just hours after Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Tehran.

U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that any country supplying military weapons to Iran will be subject to immediate tariffs of 50% on all their imported goods to the United States. This announcement was made on Tuesday, shortly after Trump reached a two-week ceasefire agreement with Tehran.

"Any country that supplies military weapons to Iran will be subject to a 50% tariff on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, effective immediately. There will be no exceptions or exemptions! President DJT," Trump wrote in his update on the Truth Social platform.

Trump did not specify which countries would be affected by these tariffs, nor did he clarify whether Russia would be included on this list. This question has gained particular relevance following reports that Russia supplied drones to Iran as early as March.

Furthermore, Trump did not indicate the legal basis on which he plans to implement these measures. His ability to impose broad global tariffs was called into question in February when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned his use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which led to a lower court ruling to refund approximately $166 billion annually.

While China and Russia blocked a U.N. resolution backed by the U.S. regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, they denied any recent cooperation in supplying weapons to Iran. However, they acknowledged that they had previously supported Iran's military capabilities by supplying missiles, air defense systems, and technology.

U.S. imports from Russia, one of the few countries not subject to Trump's "reciprocal tariffs," increased by 26.1% to $3.8 billion in 2025, according to Reuters data. This increase was primarily driven by palladium used in catalysts, as well as fertilizers and enriched uranium for nuclear reactors.

This news regarding Trump's tariff measures has sparked widespread resonance in international circles, as it could significantly impact global trade relations and security in the region. Many experts believe that such actions could lead to escalating tensions between the U.S. and countries that support Iran, and may also affect oil prices and other strategic resources.

Trump continues his hardline policy towards Iran, aiming to limit its military capabilities and influence in the Middle East. These actions are sure to be a topic of discussion at international forums, as countries that may be threatened by new tariffs have already begun to respond to Trump's statements.
