Trump Announces 100% Tariffs on Certain Pharmaceuticals

According to a report by Ukrinform, President Donald Trump has declared his intention to introduce 100% tariffs on certain pharmaceutical products. This initiative is part of his broader efforts to stimulate drug production on American soil.

As reported by ABC News, the new tariffs will apply to patented medications that do not have a pricing agreement under the "most-favored-nation" principle with the United States. Such agreements require pharmaceutical companies to set prices that are comparable to those paid in other developed countries for similar medications.

Under this new initiative, drug manufacturing companies will have the opportunity to receive reduced tariffs if they agree to relocate their production to the United States or enter into pricing agreements with the Administration. This means that if companies commit to moving their manufacturing operations to the U.S., the tariff on their products will be lowered to 20%.

Furthermore, if these companies establish a most-favored-nation agreement with the Department of Health and Human Services, they will be able to completely avoid tariffs during the construction of their factories in the United States. This creates additional incentives for pharmaceutical companies to invest in American manufacturing.

It is also worth noting that large companies will be granted a 120-day period to gradually implement the new tariffs before they take effect. This will allow them to prepare for changes in customs policy and adapt their business processes accordingly.

Recent data has indicated that more than half of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump's performance in office, particularly in light of the military operation against Iran. This situation may influence the political landscape in the country and the perception of Trump's new initiatives, especially in the healthcare sector.
