Tragedy in Odesa: Aftermath of Russian Drone Attack Claims Three Lives

In a devastating incident on the night of April 6, a Russian drone attack on a high-rise residential building in Odesa resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals, including a mother and her two-year-old daughter.

On the night of Monday, April 6, Odesa experienced a horrific tragedy when two Russian drones attacked a multi-story residential building, leading to the deaths of three people. Local residents reported the incident in interviews with Radio Svoboda, emphasizing the severe consequences of the attack.

One resident of the damaged building recounted the terrifying moments he experienced during the attack: "What happened today is the scariest... I was going up for documents — I heard screams, I heard a girl, I heard from neighbors that a girl was under the rubble. Then a child was carried out, and then, it seems, a man was carried out. There was a large family — it was just this apartment that was hit."

Eyewitnesses noted that the building was struck by two drones: one hit the roof, while the other struck the central part of the structure, resulting in the destruction of ceilings. This caused significant damage that required urgent response from rescue services.

Emergency rescue operations are ongoing at the scene, involving firefighters, canine units, and municipal services. According to the regional military administration (OVA), there may still be people trapped under the rubble, raising additional concerns among local residents and rescue teams.

As of the latest reports, three people have died as a result of the attack, including a mother and her two-year-old daughter. Additionally, 15 individuals have been injured, among them a pregnant woman and two children. Destruction has been recorded in the Primorsky and Kyiv districts of the city, indicating the scale of the attack.

In light of these tragic events, April 6 has been declared a day of mourning in Odesa for the victims of the nighttime shelling. This decision was made by the local authorities, who expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and injured.

The tragedy in Odesa marks yet another sorrowful episode in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine, which has been ongoing for over a year. Attacks on civilian targets, such as residential buildings, provoke outrage and condemnation from the international community, which calls for an end to violence and the protection of human rights.

The Ukrainian authorities continue to work on ensuring the safety of citizens; however, such incidents highlight the complex situation in the country, where the civilian population becomes a victim of military actions. This raises concerns not only within Ukraine but also beyond its borders, where people are worried about the escalation of the conflict and its consequences.
