Tyson Fury Comments on Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora Fight, Considers Retirement If Performance Deteriorates
Former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has voiced his dissatisfaction with the recent bout between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora, hinting at retirement if he performs similarly in the ring.
Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, known for his electrifying performances in the ring, has not remained indifferent to the recent fight between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora. The match, which took place recently, went the full distance, with judges awarding the victory to the Bronze Bomber with scores of 115–111, 112–115, and 115–113. However, despite the outcome, Fury expressed his displeasure with the quality of the fight.
Fury, who is regarded as one of the best boxers of his generation, noted that he found the fight unsatisfactory due to the numerous falls from both boxers. He believes that such a level of performance does not meet the standards of professional boxing. "When I was watching Deontay and Chisora, it was hard for me to watch. It was sad. My heart was breaking. I have never seen two men slip around like those two," Fury shared his impressions. He also added that he has begun to contemplate his own future in boxing.
Fury did not hold back his emotions and directly addressed his entourage, stating, "I think: 'Am I next? Is that me?' I told the guys: if I am even 10% as bad as those guys in my fight, take me out to the field and shoot me. Send me into retirement." His words indicate that he takes his performance in the ring seriously and does not want to disappoint his fans.
Interestingly, Fury plans to fight Russian boxer Mahmoudov on April 11, 2026. This will be his first match after returning to boxing, which occurred following his announcement of retirement in January 2025. Fury last stepped into the ring in December 2024, when he suffered his second defeat to Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk. After this, he announced his retirement, but by early 2026, he decided to return to professional boxing.
It is worth noting that Wilder and Chisora are former opponents of Fury, which adds a special context to his comments. Fury has previously expressed a desire to fight a star boxer after his bout with the Russian, indicating his ambitions and desire to remain at the pinnacle of boxing.
Thus, Tyson Fury's comments on the Wilder and Chisora fight not only highlight his own standards for boxing but also open new prospects for his career. Fans are eagerly awaiting his upcoming performances and potential matchups with other boxing stars.
