Ukrainian singer Taras Topolya, recognized as the frontman of the popular band Antytila, has recently disclosed troubling developments surrounding his family following the unauthorized release of an intimate video featuring his ex-wife, Olena Topolya. In an interview with journalist Marychka Dovbenko, Topolya expressed his concerns about the situation, revealing that his friends have received phone calls from unidentified individuals claiming to be him.
According to the singer, these phone calls began early in the morning following the publication of the video. "It happened early in the morning. Files started coming in supposedly from my name. It turned out to be a Spanish number. Apparently, they hoped that someone from my friends would react. To find out some information. I don’t know," stated Taras Topolya.
This incident comes against a backdrop of serious allegations that Topolya has made previously, claiming that deliberate harm is being inflicted on his family. He refrained from naming the individual he suspects may be involved in these events but added that "the investigation will establish the facts." He emphasized that the suspect is not the 23-year-old man whom the police suspect of extorting money from Olena Topolya.
Taras Topolya also shared that he has faced threats before. In the past, he was compelled to seek state protection for his children and recounted instances where explosions occurred near him in Kyiv. "I am used to living with this. Antytila is not just music; it encompasses our other activities as well. Sometimes we cross paths with people who are losing millions of hryvnias. As was the case with copyright issues," he added.
It is important to remember that on January 19, Olena Topolya reported that her intimate video was released online without her consent. She stated that she was being blackmailed and demanded money for the video. Olena emphasized that she has no intention of "hiding or feeling ashamed" and filed a police report regarding the blackmail.
Subsequently, the police announced the arrest of a man born in 2003, who may be connected to the distribution of the video. He has been charged under part 5 of article 27 and part 4 of article 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This case has sparked widespread public outcry as it involves not only violations of personal privacy but also serious criminal offenses.
In support of his ex-wife, Taras Topolya stated, "Olena had every right to her personal life." He expressed his outrage over the incident and confirmed that he would stand by Olena during this challenging time. Olena Topolya herself has also recently declined to name the individual she believes may be involved in the incident, but she promised to continue fighting for justice.
