Razvan Lucescu, head coach of the Greek football club PAOK, recently traveled to Bucharest to visit his father, the renowned coach Mircea Lucescu, who is currently hospitalized due to serious health issues.

Razvan Lucescu, the head coach of the Greek football club PAOK, made a poignant trip to Bucharest to be by the side of his father, the legendary coach Mircea Lucescu, who is facing significant health challenges. The 80-year-old football icon was hospitalized, prompting concern from fans and the football community alike.

According to reports from the sports publication GSP, Razvan's journey to Bucharest occurred on April 5, following a goalless draw (0-0) between PAOK and Panathinaikos. After the match, Razvan left the stadium and was escorted by Greek police to the airport, where he boarded a private plane to reach his father.

Upon arriving in Bucharest, Razvan was accompanied by his wife Neli and their son Matei as they visited Mircea Lucescu in the hospital. Following the visit, Razvan spoke to reporters, providing an update on his father's health condition.

"This is a difficult situation, and I ask everyone to respect this moment. The medical staff is providing all necessary information through official communication channels. Please understand that this is not easy at all," Razvan stated, as quoted by GSP.

It is important to note that Mircea Lucescu was hospitalized on March 29 after experiencing health issues during a training session with the Romanian national team, following a loss to Turkey (0-1) in the World Cup 2026 qualifying playoffs. On April 2, he stepped down from his position as head coach of the Romanian national team.

On April 3, while in the hospital, Mircea Lucescu suffered an acute myocardial infarction. Doctors were compelled to perform resuscitation procedures three times, and the coach was fitted with his fifth stent. Subsequently, he was placed in a medically induced coma due to severe cardiac arrhythmias that were resistant to treatment.

Mircea Lucescu is one of the most prominent figures in the world of football, particularly in Ukraine, where he spent 15 years of his career. During his tenure with Shakhtar Donetsk, he won the Ukrainian championship eight times and claimed the UEFA Cup in 2009. He also managed Dynamo Kyiv, leading them to victory in the Ukrainian Premier League during the 2020/21 season.

In the 2016/17 season, Mircea Lucescu managed the Russian club Zenit. He has often spoken about his home in Donetsk, which he was forced to leave due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
