Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk Returns to the Ukrainian National Basketball Team for Crucial 2027 World Cup Qualifying Matches

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk, the Utah Jazz guard, is set to rejoin the Ukrainian national basketball team for pivotal qualifying matches for the 2027 World Cup, as confirmed by the General Secretary of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine, Volodymyr Drabikovskyi.

The announcement of Mykhailiuk's return is a significant boost for fans and the sports community, as his participation could greatly influence the team's chances of success in these crucial matches. Drabikovskyi officially stated that there is a preliminary agreement for Mykhailiuk to play in the upcoming games scheduled for July.

According to Tribuna.com, Drabikovskyi confirmed, "I can confirm that there is an agreement — Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk will be with us in July. As for Oleksiy Len, I am not sure; he seems to be saying that he is not against playing, but not right now." This statement highlights the ongoing discussions regarding the roster for the national team.

Drabikovskyi also addressed the situation with other players, stating, "Shulha? Shulha — if he resolves his issues. He is under a ban and cannot play for the national team until he addresses this problem. However, he is very eager to play; he is a very positive guy. Who else do we have? Kobzistyi — we are counting on him," emphasizing the importance of the team as a whole.

Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk last played for the Ukrainian national team during the 2022 European Championship, and his return is seen as a significant reinforcement for the squad. The Ukrainian team is preparing for two decisive matches: on July 2, they will face Georgia, followed by a game against Denmark on July 5. These encounters are critical for their efforts to advance to the second round of the qualifiers.

Currently, Ukraine sits in second place in their group with 6 points. The top three teams from the group will progress to the next stage of the qualifiers, where they will compete against representatives from Group B, which includes Montenegro, Greece, Portugal, and Romania. It is essential to note that the results of the first stage matches between teams that advance will be retained, adding even more pressure to the upcoming games.

Additionally, it is worth mentioning that earlier, Artem Pustovyi, the center for the Ukrainian national basketball team, announced his retirement from the national team, marking another significant event in Ukrainian basketball. Fans are hopeful that Mykhailiuk's return will help the team achieve success in the qualifiers and secure a spot at the 2027 World Cup.
