Derek Chisora: 'I Realized Usyk Would Become a Superstar'

Derek Chisora, the well-known British boxer, has expressed his thoughts on Ukrainian champion Oleksandr Usyk, highlighting that Usyk's movement and technique are key factors behind his success in the ring. According to BoxingScene, Chisora noted that Usyk has the ability to defeat his opponents due to his skill in moving quickly and changing angles, making him exceptionally difficult to face.

“Movement, movement... This is a strong trait of the Ukrainian. Remember, in boxing, we are taught to hit the target and not move our feet. Oleksandr not only hits the target but also moves quickly from one side to another, changing angles. This is quite difficult. I knew he would be the best because everyone else was avoiding him,” Chisora remarked, emphasizing Usyk's uniqueness among boxers.

Derek Chisora also reflected on his experience boxing against Usyk, stating that after their bout, he realized that the Ukrainian boxer had the potential to become a true star. “I boxed with Oleksandr, and then his next big fight was with AJ at Tottenham. The fight was great; the Ukrainian won it. Then, in the rematch, he won again. And from that moment, I knew for sure that Usyk would become a superstar,” Chisora added.

It is worth noting that Oleksandr Usyk and Derek Chisora faced off in the ring in October 2020, where the Ukrainian boxer secured victory by unanimous decision. This match was a significant milestone in Usyk's career, as it showcased his skill and ability to adapt to different fighting styles.
