Satellite Images Reveal Damage to Equipment at Bashkortostan Oil Refinery

Recent satellite images have confirmed significant damage to the oil processing facility at the Bashneft-Novoil refinery in Ufa, Bashkortostan, following a drone strike on April 2.

Recent satellite images, made available through an analysis of events that occurred on April 2, have confirmed reports that a drone strike on the Bashneft-Novoil refinery in the capital of Bashkortostan, Ufa, caused serious damage to the primary oil processing unit AVT-5. This information was reported by Radio Free Europe, citing satellite monitoring data.

It is noteworthy that the Bashneft-Novoil refinery has previously been targeted in attacks. On September 15, 2025, the facility suffered a strike that also damaged the complex and costly primary oil processing unit AVT-6. These incidents indicate that the refinery may be under a constant threat from unmanned aerial vehicles.

Following the drone attack on April 2, a fire broke out on the premises of the refinery, as confirmed by the head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov. According to him, the fire was a result of the drones hitting the production facilities of the refinery, which caused significant material losses. Firefighters responded promptly to the situation; however, the extent of the damage requires further analysis and assessment.

The Bashneft-Novoil refinery is a crucial enterprise for the region, as it is a subsidiary of PJSC ANK Bashneft, which is controlled by PJSC NK Rosneft. The refinery specializes in the production of high-quality petroleum products, including high-octane gasoline, motor and industrial oils, aviation and jet fuels, diesel fuel, bitumen, and other oil products. The refinery has an annual capacity of approximately 7.3 million tons of oil, making it one of the key players in Russia's oil refining industry.

The events that unfolded in Ufa are raising concerns not only among the local population but also on an international level, as attacks on critical infrastructure can have serious repercussions for the region's economy and security. The authorities in Bashkortostan and relevant services have already initiated an investigation into the causes of the attack and are assessing the damages incurred to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In light of these events, it is essential to monitor the ongoing situation closely, as attacks on such facilities can have far-reaching implications not only for the region but for the entire country. Observations of the situation will continue, and an analysis of potential security measures to protect critical infrastructure will be conducted.
