Cargo Ship Sinks in the Sea of Azov: Details of the Tragedy Near Kherson Region
A tragic incident occurred in the Sea of Azov, off the coast of the Kherson region, where a cargo ship carrying wheat sank. Russian propaganda sources reported that the vessel was attacked by a drone, a claim confirmed by the so-called 'governor' of the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo.
In the Sea of Azov, near the shores of the Kherson region, a tragic sinking of a cargo ship loaded with wheat has taken place. According to reports from Russian propaganda sources, the ship was attacked by a drone. This information was confirmed by Vladimir Saldo, the so-called 'governor' of the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, who shared details of the incident on his Telegram channel.
Saldo reported that the vessel, identified as a Volgo-Balt type cargo ship, encountered difficulties while navigating. According to his statements, nine crew members were able to reach the shore of the Kherson region with the help of a special capsule boat. All of them are citizens of Russia. Unfortunately, the senior assistant to the captain, born in 1991, lost his life, and two other crew members are considered missing.
Vladimir Saldo did not specify the cause of the ship's accident; however, the Russian propaganda agency TASS, citing sources in operational services, claims that the cargo ship was attacked by a drone. According to their reports, the incident occurred approximately 300 miles north of the occupied city of Kerch. As a result of this attack, propaganda sources indicate that two people lost their lives.
Of the nine individuals who reached the temporarily occupied village of Shchaslyvtseve in the capsule boat, one person was already deceased. This tragedy underscores the perilous situation in the region, where military operations and drone attacks have become commonplace.
The Volgo-Balt type vessel is a Soviet and Russian cargo ship designed for mixed (river-sea) navigation, intended for transporting bulk and loose cargo along inland waterways with the capability of accessing coastal marine areas. This type of ship was actively used during Soviet times and remains in operation today, despite numerous challenges facing shipping in the context of modern military conflicts.
The tragedy involving the cargo ship in the Sea of Azov serves as yet another testament to the complex situation in the region, where military operations and risks to maritime transport are on the rise. In the context of occupation and constant threats, the safety of navigation is becoming an increasingly pressing topic for discussion and analysis, both from international observers and local residents who are facing the consequences of these events.
