Status of War-Affected Children Granted to 299 Kids from Sumy Community – City Council

On Thursday, October 5, it was announced that the Child Rights Protection Commission has decided to grant war-affected status to 299 children residing in the Sumy community. This decision represents a crucial advancement in supporting children who have suffered due to the ongoing conflict, reflecting the local authorities' commitment to ensuring their rights and needs are met.

According to a statement published on the Telegram channel of the Sumy City Council, the commission's meeting addressed over twenty issues related to the protection of children's rights. Among these were matters concerning property aspects, social support, and situations arising from the fulfillment of parental responsibilities. This indicates a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by children in the Sumy community.

During the meeting, individual social protection plans were also approved for orphans, children deprived of parental care, and those in difficult life circumstances. These plans serve as vital tools for providing necessary assistance and support to children who find themselves in vulnerable situations.

The Sumy community, which includes the regional center and 20 villages, is predominantly located north of the city. Before the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the community had a population of approximately 277,000 residents. Although no combat operations are currently taking place within the community, the frontline is situated just six kilometers away, posing certain risks and challenges for local inhabitants.
