Stanislav Horuna, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has made history by becoming the first foreign coach to train the Japanese karate team. This significant event took place on April 3, when he conducted a kumite training session for the team.

Stanislav Horuna, a bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, arrived in Japan, where he had the honor of conducting a kumite training session for the Japanese national karate team. This event took place on April 3 and marked a historic moment, as Horuna became the first foreign coach to lead training for the Japanese team. This information was reported by the press service of the Karate Federation of Ukraine.

The invitation for Stanislav to conduct the training came from the Japan Karate Federation (JKF). In a letter of gratitude addressed to the Ukrainian athlete by JKF President Yoshihiro Sasakawa, it was noted that Horuna's outstanding skills and extensive experience provided valuable insights and inspiration to the Japanese athletes. The JKF president also emphasized that this is the first instance in history where a foreign expert has trained the Japanese national team, marking an important event that will contribute to the further development of karate in the country.

Additionally, Stanislav Horuna plans to meet with the owner of his bronze Olympic medal, which he sold at a charity auction for $20,500 at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The funds raised were directed to support Ukrainian defenders. Later, the buyer decided to return the medal to the distinguished karateka, which became yet another significant event in his career.

Stanislav Horuna is one of the most decorated athletes in Ukraine's karate history. He won a gold medal at the 2021 European Championships and was recognized as the best at the World and European Games in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Throughout his career, the long-time captain of the Ukrainian national team has earned 13 medals at the most prestigious international tournaments, underscoring his high professionalism and skill.

It is worth noting that in March 2026, Stanislav Horuna expressed his opinion regarding the upcoming fight between Oleksandr Usyk and legendary kickboxer Rico Verhoeven. These comments further highlight Horuna's active involvement in the sporting life of Ukraine and his influence on young athletes.
