US Will Strike If Iran Attempts to Use Ceasefire for Military Reorganization - Gates

In a recent briefing, US Secretary of Defense Pete Gates expressed concern over the potential risks associated with Iran using the ceasefire to regroup, rearm, and reposition its military forces.

In a recent briefing, US Secretary of Defense Pete Gates expressed concern over the potential risks associated with Iran using the ceasefire to regroup, rearm, and reposition its military forces. According to Sky News, Gates emphasized that US Central Command is closely monitoring the situation and has several options for responding to possible actions by Iran.

The Pentagon chief noted that the more Iran moves its troops, the easier they become to target. He stated, "The more Iran moves, the more Iran shifts troops, the more forces they place in locations, the easier it is for us to strike them. Remember, we can observe, we can see... So if they try to change positions, they are simply creating ideal military targets for us to strike if they make the wrong decision."

Gates also stressed that the US is in control of the situation, not the other way around, which is why the Iranians have come to the negotiating table. He believes that the US and Iran, having agreed to a two-week ceasefire, have a "chance for real peace and a real deal."

It is worth noting that recently, the US, Israel, and Iran reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire, which also includes the reopening of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement came as a result of prolonged negotiations between the parties seeking to reduce tensions in the region.

Additionally, Iran's new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued an order to Iranian military forces for an immediate ceasefire. This order was announced approximately two hours after US President Donald Trump declared a two-week postponement of strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure and bridges in exchange for the immediate reopening of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the US, Israel also agreed to a two-week ceasefire, indicating a collective desire to lower tensions in the region and find pathways for peaceful conflict resolution.

This situation demands close attention from the international community, as any actions that could threaten stability in the region may have serious consequences not only for the participating countries but also for global security. Observers believe that further steps by Iran could significantly impact the developments in the region, making it crucial for the US and its allies to remain vigilant.
