Supreme Court Postpones Hearing on Sanctions Case Involving Former President Poroshenko
The Supreme Court of Ukraine has once again postponed the hearing of a lawsuit filed by former President Petro Poroshenko concerning sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).
The Supreme Court of Ukraine has once again postponed the hearing of a lawsuit filed by former President Petro Poroshenko concerning sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). This information was reported by the press service of the 'European Solidarity' party on their Facebook page.
Poroshenko's attorney, Ilya Novikov, stated that the hearing will not take place due to the illness of the judge. 'We were informed that the hearing would not occur because the judge fell ill,' he reported, emphasizing that this could indicate that the next court session will take place next week or that the judge has withdrawn from reviewing this case, which would require starting the process from the beginning.
It is worth noting that during previous court sessions, the panel of judges had already completed the examination of nine volumes of the case and had moved on to the final hearing of the parties. Specifically, at the session on January 30, representatives of the plaintiff spoke, and the representative of the defendant began his statement but did not manage to complete it. Consequently, the panel of judges postponed the court session to March 6.
After the conclusion of the defendant's hearing, the Cassation Administrative Court as part of the Supreme Court will proceed to make a decision in this case. As reported by Ukrinform, on February 12, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky enacted the NSDC's decision to impose personal sanctions against a number of individuals, including Igor Kolomoisky, Gennady Bogolyubov, Konstantin Zhevago, Petro Poroshenko, and Viktor Medvedchuk.
The sanctions imposed on these individuals entail a range of restrictions, including the deprivation of state awards of Ukraine and other forms of recognition, blocking of assets, restrictions on trade operations, complete cessation of resource transit, flights, and transportation across the territory of Ukraine, as well as preventing the outflow of capital beyond the country's borders. It is important to note that these sanctions are applied indefinitely.
The consideration of Petro Poroshenko's lawsuit regarding the imposition of NSDC sanctions against him began on April 17, and since then, the case has generated significant interest both in political circles and among the public. The situation surrounding this case continues to remain tense, as many experts and analysts believe that it holds significant implications for the further development of the political situation in Ukraine.
