Denis Boyko, the former goalkeeper for the Ukrainian national team and Dynamo Kyiv, has recently reflected on the legacy of his former coach, the esteemed Romanian football manager Mircea Lucescu, who sadly passed away on April 7. In his heartfelt recollections, Boyko emphasized Lucescu's significant role in providing support to individuals during difficult times, especially in the wake of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Boyko recalled how Lucescu, despite his own fears and anxieties, exhibited remarkable humanity and kindness by organizing assistance for all those in need. 'This is a person with immense life experience. Of course, no one would say they weren't scared at that time. But Lucescu did everything possible to help everyone without exception: club staff, players' families, relatives, and friends,' Boyko noted.

He shared how Lucescu arranged buses for evacuation to Romania, providing housing and shelter for those who required it. 'He helped financially and used his influence. Looking at him, we understood: this person had no doubts or fears in his eyes. His actions motivated us to feel calmer. It was an incredible level of support,' Boyko added, highlighting the importance of the moral support Lucescu provided during these challenging times.

Denis Boyko also expressed his deep respect for Mircea Lucescu, calling him a legend of Ukrainian football. 'What one word can describe Lucescu? Legend. 100 percent, a person with a capital letter. You know, Valeriy Lobanovskyi was called 'The Meter.' I was unfortunate not to play under Valeriy Vasylovych, but my father worked with him, so I know very well that Lobanovskyi was an incredible psychologist. And I can say that Lucescu also understood psychology perfectly, which is why he is 'Mister,' Boyko stated in an interview for the Ukrainian Football Association (UFA).

These words reflect the deep respect and recognition that Lucescu earned among his players. His ability to assist people in critical moments, along with his professionalism and humanity, has left an indelible mark on Ukrainian football.

Earlier, it was reported that Serhiy Rebrov also emotionally reacted to Lucescu's death, mentioning the competition in Ukrainian football. This indicates the profound impact Lucescu had on the development of football in Ukraine and the lives of many players and coaches.

Mircea Lucescu has left a vibrant legacy in the history of Ukrainian football, and his contributions to the development of the sport and support for people during difficult times will always be remembered.
