Collaboration with Syria: A Significant Step for Ukraine

Military personnel and journalist Yuriy Matsarsky emphasized in an interview with Radio NV the importance of collaboration with Syria for Ukraine, discussing potential locations for Ukrainian Armed Forces military bases.

In a recent interview with Radio NV, military personnel and journalist Yuriy Matsarsky highlighted the significance of Ukraine's collaboration with Syria, describing it as a crucial step for the country. He elaborated on the potential locations for military bases of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, suggesting that discussions should begin with Syria's temporary president, Ahmed Ash-Sharaa. Matsarsky also reflected on President Volodymyr Zelensky's unexpected visit to Syria, which has garnered attention for its implications.

Matsarsky noted that during Zelensky's tour of Middle Eastern countries, which included visits to wealthy states interested in security and defense cooperation with Ukraine, Syria emerged as an unexpected choice. “I saw the loudest assessments that this was a historic visit. How do you assess it?” asked the host, prompting Matsarsky to share his insights.

In response, Matsarsky emphasized that despite its complicated state, Syria remains an extraordinarily important country. He pointed out that, despite the extensive destruction of cities and enterprises due to a war that has lasted nearly a decade and a half, Syria holds strategic significance for the region. “More than half of the country's population has become either internally displaced persons or have fled abroad,” he remarked, highlighting the serious humanitarian challenges facing the nation.

The context of this collaboration lies in the fact that, despite the numerous challenges confronting Syria, the country could become a vital partner for Ukraine amid contemporary geopolitical realities. Matsarsky believes that military cooperation could be advantageous not only for Ukraine but also for regional stability as a whole.

Specifically, the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces bases could be established at strategically important points, allowing Ukraine to strengthen its defensive positions and ensure security in the region. According to the expert, such a partnership could serve as a foundation for further development of relations between Ukraine and Syria, which in turn could positively influence the situation in both countries.

Thus, collaboration with Syria opens new opportunities for Ukraine, enabling it to bolster its positions on the international stage and ensure stability in the Middle East region. It is crucial for the Ukrainian side to continue engaging in dialogue with the Syrian leadership and seek ways to develop mutually beneficial relations, despite the complex situation within the country.
