Ukrainian Special Forces Disable Last Russian Railway Ferry in Kerch Strait
In a significant operation, Ukrainian special forces successfully targeted and disabled the last operational railway ferry used by the Russian military in the Kerch Strait, marking a crucial blow to Russian logistics.
According to reports from the Ukrinform news agency, details of this important operation were revealed through official information published on the Facebook page of the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine.
In the early hours of April 6, 2023, fighters from the Active Actions Department of HUR Ukraine executed a successful attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), resulting in the disabling of the railway ferry named 'Slavyanina'. This ferry was the last remaining vessel in operation and was utilized by the Russian army for transporting cargo across the Kerch Strait.
As per the information provided by HUR, the 'Slavyanina' ferry played a critically important role in supplying the Russian military contingent temporarily stationed in the occupied territory of Crimea. It was used for the transportation of fuel, ammunition, military equipment, and other essential supplies necessary to support Russian military operations in the region.
HUR representatives also reminded that in March 2023, Ukrainian special forces had already struck another Russian railway ferry known as 'Avangard', which also suffered damage. These actions indicate a systematic approach by Ukrainian forces to disrupt the enemy's logistical routes, significantly complicating their military operations.
Furthermore, it was previously reported that Ukrainian drone forces targeted the frigate 'Admiral Makarov', a carrier of 'Kalibr' missiles, in the port of Novorossiysk. These strikes underscore the active role of the Ukrainian military in combating Russian forces both at sea and on land.
These events occur amid the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has persisted since 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea. Since then, Ukraine has been actively working to regain control over its territories and to eliminate the military resources of the adversary.
The significance of operations such as the disabling of the 'Slavyanina' ferry cannot be overstated, as they substantially affect the enemy's ability to supply its troops with necessary resources. This also demonstrates the growing capability of the Ukrainian military in conducting modern warfare, where the use of technologies such as UAVs is becoming increasingly relevant.
