Ukrainian Union in Romania Awards 50 Winners of Native Language Olympiad
The Union of Ukrainians in Romania (UUR) recently held a ceremonial award presentation, recognizing over 50 winners of the native language Olympiad. This event was part of UUR representatives' meetings in educational institutions, where the best students showcasing their proficiency in the Ukrainian language were honored.
The Union of Ukrainians in Romania (UUR) recently celebrated a significant milestone by hosting a formal award ceremony, during which more than 50 awards were presented to the winners of the native language Olympiad. This event took place as part of the UUR representatives' visits to various educational institutions, where they acknowledged the most outstanding students who demonstrated exceptional knowledge of the Ukrainian language. The announcement was made by Mykola-Myroslav Petretsky on his Facebook page.
The awards received by the participants serve not only as a symbolic recognition of their achievements but also as tangible support from the Union. The UUR provides students with prizes, scholarships for summer camps, and excursions, which contribute to their development and encourage further study of their native language.
Mykola-Myroslav Petretsky, the head of UUR, emphasized that proficiency in the Ukrainian language is a vital competitive advantage in today's world. He noted that the job market increasingly demands Ukrainian-speaking professionals in fields such as medicine, engineering, and IT. This, in turn, opens wide opportunities for graduates to realize their potential and achieve career growth.
In addition to the awards ceremony, UUR representatives also focused on improving learning conditions for Ukrainian students during their visits. Thanks to the UUR's amendments to the Romanian state budget for 2026, funding has been secured for the modernization of school infrastructure. This includes the renovation and equipping of classrooms and labs with modern equipment, such as interactive whiteboards and other tools that allow students to maximize their potential.
Petretsky expressed gratitude to the directors and teachers for their efforts in preserving the cultural identity of Ukrainians in Romania. Awards were presented at several educational institutions, including the Taras Shevchenko Pedagogical Lyceum in Sighetu Marmației, vocational and gymnasium schools in Polyana, as well as schools in Kryvyi and Ruska.
The head of UUR underscored that education in the native language remains a priority task for the organization. He pointed out that schools are places where the future of Ukrainian identity is shaped, which is extremely important in today's globalized world.
Accompanying the head of UUR on this trip were Vice President Ioan Rekalo, the head of the Maramureș branch Myroslav Petretsky, and representatives from local Union organizations. This highlights the active involvement of UUR in the development of the Ukrainian community in Romania and the support of the Ukrainian language and culture.
It is worth noting that recently, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Romania, Ihor Prokopchuk, made a working visit to the Maramureș County, where he held a series of meetings dedicated to the development of Ukrainian-Romanian interregional cooperation and support for the local Ukrainian community. These initiatives underscore the importance of collaboration between Ukraine and Romania, as well as the support for Ukrainian culture and language abroad.
