Serhiy Beskrestnov Denies Reports of Airfield Construction in Belarus for Shahed Drone Launches Against Ukraine
Ukrainian Defense Ministry advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov, known by the pseudonym Flash, has refuted claims regarding the alleged construction of airfields in Belarus intended for launching Shahed drones into Ukrainian territory.
On Monday, April 6, Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Defense, publicly denied reports suggesting that airfields were being constructed in Belarus for the purpose of launching Shahed drones against Ukraine. This assertion was made on his social media page on Telegram.
In his post, Flash stated, "I have no information about the construction of airfields for launching Shaheds from Belarus. I am shocked by how information is being distorted. Such distortion, unfortunately, exerts psychological pressure on our people, who are already facing difficulties." These words highlight the seriousness of the situation and the impact of misinformation on the morale of Ukrainians.
Flash also recalled that on March 23, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the destruction of four command points for the Shaheds in Belarus, which facilitated remote control of the drones over long distances. The President emphasized the possibility that the enemy could restore these command points, raising additional concerns within military circles.
On April 5, an article appeared on the Forbes website in which the author, according to Beskrestnov, misinterpreted the President's statement, referring to the drone remote control antennas as "long-range bases." This misrepresentation sparked further speculation in the media, which began disseminating information about the supposed construction of four bases in Belarus for launching Shaheds against Ukraine.
Flash added that this interpretation was picked up by other media outlets, which unfoundedly expanded on the information regarding the potential construction of airfields in Belarus, causing panic among the population and misleading the public.
It is worth noting that back in December 2025, President Zelensky reported on attempts by Russian military forces to circumvent Ukrainian defensive positions through Belarusian territory. At that time, antennas and other equipment were placed on rooftops in border areas to assist in guiding Shaheds to targets in western regions of Ukraine. These facts indicate the ongoing threats posed by Belarus and underscore the importance of accurate information in wartime conditions.
Thus, Beskrestnov's denial emphasizes the need for a cautious approach to information circulating in the media, especially in the context of military actions, where every word can have serious consequences for society and the morale of the nation.
