SBU Detains Builder from Irpin for Registering Starlink Terminals on Behalf of Russians
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the detention of a builder from Irpin who allegedly registered Starlink terminals at the request of Russian operatives. This information was released by the Ukrinform agency, citing official sources within the SBU.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported the arrest of a builder from Irpin, who, according to the investigation, registered Starlink terminals at the behest of Russian agents. This information was made public by the Ukrinform agency, which refers to official sources within the SBU.
It has been established that the detainee, lured by the prospect of easy money, initially registered one Starlink terminal in his name and provided the relevant details to his handler. However, this was just the beginning of his activities. Following this, the investigation revealed that the agent covertly registered two more terminals in the name of a colleague and his wife, indicating his intention to expand the registration network.
Additionally, the suspect planned to involve another 20 acquaintances for the verification of the terminals, suggesting organized activity and a possible network of accomplices. SBU employees apprehended him directly at a construction site in Irpin, following a prolonged monitoring of his actions.
During searches of his residence, several smartphones were discovered, which he used to communicate with Russian handlers and recruit front persons for the registration of Starlink terminals. These devices have become crucial evidence in the case, as they may contain contacts and other data confirming his criminal activities.
According to the case materials, the suspect came to the attention of Russian intelligence services while seeking quick earning opportunities in popular Telegram channels. This indicates active efforts by Russian agents to recruit Ukrainians for collaboration amid the ongoing war.
SBU investigators have already informed the detainee of his suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to treason committed in conditions of martial law. This serious accusation carries severe penalties.
At present, the perpetrator is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with property confiscation, underscoring the seriousness of his crime and the potential consequences that may follow.
This situation further confirms the activity of Russian intelligence services in attempts to destabilize the situation in Ukraine by using local residents for their purposes. As reported by Ukrinform, recently in the Zakarpattia region, the SBU detained another local resident who also attempted to register Starlink satellite terminals at the request of Russians.
The Security Service of Ukraine continues its efforts to identify and apprehend individuals cooperating with the enemy and urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
