SBU Detains Russian Agent Who Leaked Ukrainian Defense Positions in Kyiv and Kharkiv Regions
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has apprehended a woman suspected of collaborating with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, passing on information about the positions of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has successfully detained a woman believed to be working with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), who was allegedly transmitting sensitive information regarding the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions. This operation, reported by Ukrinform, was the result of a lengthy investigation that uncovered the criminal activities of the suspect.
The detained individual is an unemployed resident of Fastiv, a city in the Kyiv region. She relocated to Fastiv from frontline areas in Donetsk, where her life was likely endangered due to ongoing military actions. However, instead of distancing herself from hostile activities, she became an agent for Russian intelligence services.
It has been established that the woman acted under the direction of the FSB. She came to the attention of Russian intelligence through an acquaintance living in Russia, who also has ties to the agency. This highlights the alarming trend of hostile services actively recruiting Ukrainians for their operations, exploiting personal connections and family relationships.
The agent reportedly conducted surveillance on Ukrainian military convoys under the pretense of visiting relatives and friends in Kyiv and Izium. During these trips, she documented the geolocations of military units and defensive fortifications that came to her attention. Such actions raise serious concerns about the safety of Ukrainian troops, as they could lead to casualties and the destruction of critical infrastructure.
The information collected by the woman was transmitted to her handler via the messaging app Telegram, in the form of Google Maps markers accompanied by detailed descriptions. This confirms that she acted with the intent to harm Ukraine, utilizing modern technology to relay information to the enemy.
The SBU has documented this criminal activity and apprehended the suspect. During searches of her residence, a smartphone was seized, containing evidence of her collaboration with enemy forces. This represents a significant step in the fight against hostile agents attempting to undermine the country's defense capabilities.
The detainee has been charged under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates penalties for treason committed in a state of war. She is currently in custody, facing the possibility of life imprisonment along with asset confiscation.
This case serves as yet another confirmation that, amid the ongoing war, Ukraine is grappling with serious challenges related to internal security. As previously reported by Ukrinform, an agent of the Russian military intelligence was also detained in the Kyiv region, who was preparing new missile attacks on thermal power plants. These incidents underscore the necessity for vigilance and proactive measures by law enforcement agencies in combating hostile elements.
