SBU Detains FSB Agent in Volyn Gathering Intelligence for Russian Strikes on Ukrzaliznytsia
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the detention of a Federal Security Service (FSB) agent on the territory of Volyn, suspected of gathering intelligence and setting up video devices used to direct Russian strikes on military cargo trains of Ukrzaliznytsia.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has made a significant announcement regarding the detention of an agent from the Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation in Volyn. This individual is suspected of collecting intelligence and establishing video devices that were utilized to guide Russian strikes on military cargo trains operated by Ukrzaliznytsia.
The information about this event came to light on Friday, April 3, when the SBU published relevant details on its Telegram channel. According to military counterintelligence, the detained man systematically monitored the schedules and routes of cargo trains to assist Russian military forces in disrupting the logistics of Ukraine's Defense Forces.
Investigators have determined that the suspect is an unemployed resident of Poltava, who was recruited through Telegram channels while seeking quick earning opportunities. Subsequently, he traveled to the Volyn region, where he settled near a railway station. In his apartment, he installed a phone equipped with a camera that transmitted live video feeds to Russian intelligence services, confirming his active involvement in espionage activities.
According to information provided by the SBU, the FSB aimed to ascertain the exact arrival times of trains for targeted strikes on military cargo. Law enforcement officials documented the agent's activities, which led to his detention at the scene, as well as the seizure of several smartphones that were used for communication with his handler and for tracking train movements.
Furthermore, it was established that the detained individual had previously engaged in intelligence activities in Poltava, where he also monitored the positions of mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces. For the sake of operational security, the suspect and his handler employed code words and symbols in anonymous chats, indicating careful preparation and organization of their operations.
Investigators from the SBU have charged the man under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which stipulates liability for treason committed under martial law. Currently, the detained individual is in custody and faces the possibility of life imprisonment along with asset confiscation, which poses serious consequences for his criminal activities.
This situation once again underscores the critical importance of the work carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine in combating Russian aggression and identifying traitors who seek to undermine Ukraine's national security. The SBU continues to actively work on detecting and neutralizing threats that may arise in the context of martial law.
