SBU Prevents Russian Attempts to Register Starlink in Zhytomyr Region

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has reported a successful operation that thwarted attempts by Russian intelligence services to register Starlink satellite terminals in the Zhytomyr region. This information was disclosed in a statement by the SBU, which emphasized the importance of active citizen participation in countering hostile actions.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the successful thwarting of attempts by Russian intelligence agencies to register Starlink satellite terminals in the Zhytomyr region. This operation underscores the critical role that vigilant citizens play in combating foreign threats, as highlighted in the SBU's recent statement.

According to the details of the case, a Russian intelligence officer attempted to recruit a woman through the popular messaging app Telegram. This woman became the target of an FSB agent who offered her a monetary reward to register a Starlink satellite terminal in her name at the local Administrative Services Center. Following the registration, she was expected to hand over the terminal's details to the Russian side.

The plan devised by the Russian intelligence services involved using this woman to recruit others who would also register Starlink satellite terminals. This could have created a network of front individuals acting in favor of the enemy, thereby providing access to modern communication technologies. However, instead of complying with the Russians' instructions, the woman opted to report the recruitment attempt to the SBU's hotline, providing all necessary information about the situation.

Thanks to her decisiveness and prompt action, the SBU was able not only to disrupt the illegal verification of satellite terminals but also to identify the Russian masterminds behind the operation and document their criminal activities. This incident highlights the importance of collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies in the fight against hostile threats.

The Security Service of Ukraine urges all citizens to remain vigilant and attentive. If approached with suspicious offers, if you notice unusual items or individuals, or if you receive information about the activities of Russian intelligence services, the SBU recommends not to hesitate and report it. Information can be submitted through the chatbot 'Burn the FSB Agent', as well as via phone numbers: 1516 or 0 800 501 482, and through email.

It is worth noting that earlier, the SBU detained a construction worker from Irpin in the Kyiv region who had been registering Starlink satellite terminals at the behest of Russian intelligence services. This incident underscores the critical importance of an active societal stance in detecting and countering hostile actions.
