SBU Updates Hotline Number for Citizens
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced an update to its hotline for citizen inquiries, introducing a new short number 1516, which allows free calls from both mobile and landline phones.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has made a significant update to its communication channels, now enabling citizens to reach out for assistance and report critical information through a newly established hotline number, 1516. This initiative aims to enhance public safety and encourage citizens to actively participate in national security efforts by providing a direct line to the SBU. Importantly, calls made to this number from both mobile and landline phones will be free of charge, making it more accessible for all.
In an official statement shared via social media, the SBU emphasized the importance of citizen involvement in reporting suspicious activities. The agency is urging individuals to contact them at 1516 if they possess any information regarding the preparation of terrorist acts, acts of sabotage, or other illegal activities. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious objects or individuals they may encounter, as well as any online resources that adversaries might be using for recruitment purposes. The SBU is particularly interested in gathering intelligence on the activities of Russian special services, which have been a significant concern amid ongoing tensions.
The SBU also highlighted the importance of reporting any unsolicited approaches from strangers who may make offers related to arson, the movement of unidentified objects, or surveillance of people and vehicles. These reports can be crucial in preventing potential threats and ensuring the safety of the community.
“All information received will be thoroughly verified. Confidentiality of inquiries is guaranteed. Your call or message could save lives – both yours and those of others,” the SBU emphasized in their statement, underscoring the critical role that each citizen can play in national security.
In addition to the new hotline number, the SBU has provided several alternative communication channels for citizens wishing to report information or seek assistance. These include a chat-bot named “Spaly” designed to assist in reporting suspicious activities, accessible at t.me/spaly_fsb_bot. Furthermore, citizens can reach out via email at callcenter@ssu.gov.ua. The previous hotline number, 0 800 501 482, remains operational for those who may prefer to use it.
This update comes at a time when the SBU is intensifying its efforts to combat threats to national security, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict and the need for heightened vigilance among the populace. The agency's proactive approach in engaging with citizens reflects a broader strategy to foster collaboration between the public and security services, ensuring that everyone plays a part in safeguarding the nation.
As Ukraine continues to face various security challenges, the SBU's initiative to update its hotline and encourage citizen reporting is a vital step in bolstering the country's defenses. By providing accessible communication channels and assuring the public of confidentiality, the SBU aims to empower citizens to take an active role in maintaining safety and security in their communities.
