Russian attack drones struck Odesa overnight on May 1, injuring at least 20 people and damaging residential buildings, civilian infrastructure and a kindergarten, Ukrainian officials said.
Serhiy Lysak, head of the Odesa City Military Administration, said the attack targeted residential areas and civilian facilities in several parts of the southern port city, with the Prymorskyi District suffering the worst damage.

“The enemy has attacked our city again,” Lysak said. “A fire was recorded in a 16-story building. We also have a strike on another high-rise – there was a fire on the 11th and 12th levels.”
A high-rise building and a five-story residential building were damaged in Prymorskyi District, while private houses and apartment buildings in central Odesa were also hit.
“Social and commercial facilities were hit,” Lysak said, adding that a kindergarten was heavily damaged, while a shopping center, a hotel and administrative buildings were also struck.
Hits were also recorded on infrastructure facilities, warehouses and a garage cooperative in the city’s Khadzhybeiskyi District.
“Unfortunately, 16 people were injured. Among them is a 17-year-old boy. Two people are currently in intensive care in serious condition, and doctors are fighting for their lives,” Lysak said.
Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper later said the number of injured had risen to 20.
Ukraine’s Air Force said air defenses shot down 172 of 206 drones launched by Russia overnight. Earlier, at 1:35 a.m., the Air Force had warned that Russian attack drones were moving from the Black Sea toward Odesa.
