Ukrainian President Warns of Potential Russian Attacks on Critical Infrastructure
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has raised alarms about possible Russian military strikes targeting vital infrastructure, particularly railways and water supply systems, during a recent press conference.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has recently highlighted the significant threats posed by potential Russian attacks on critical infrastructure during a press conference. According to the head of state, intelligence reports have revealed intentions from Russian military forces to strike logistical systems, specifically targeting railways and water supply networks.
Zelensky emphasized the urgent need for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and local authorities to prepare for these threats. He underscored the importance of safeguarding essential infrastructure, including bridges, dams, hydroelectric power stations, and pumping stations that ensure the supply of drinking water. "All of this must be addressed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in collaboration with local authorities, and they are already working on it," he stated.
The President also pointed out that the Ukrainian Air Force is actively enhancing the air defense system and integrating new technologies to protect against potential attacks. He added that, in some cases, additional physical protection for infrastructure facilities may be necessary.
"All regional authorities and communities must be involved in the necessary preparations. In every village and city, heads and mayors must take charge of this. They need to know what is most critical for them—what is essential for sewage systems or the supply of drinking water. Maximum protection is required," Zelensky stressed.
Furthermore, the President expressed the view that Russian forces had hoped to break Ukraine this winter but have exhausted their resources, including missiles and drones. "We must be honest: it was very difficult for us because they persistently struck at us, destroying our heating and electricity generation capabilities. Although their operation against our energy continues, they are somewhat depleted in terms of the number of missiles and drones. Therefore, they understand that in spring and summer, they will not have such a strong impact," he noted.
It is worth mentioning that Ukrainian defense forces recently struck Russian oil terminals in the Baltic Sea in retaliation for attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. These actions demonstrate Ukraine's readiness to defend its interests and prevent further assaults from the aggressor.
