Russian Propaganda Spreads Narratives of Ukraine as a 'Terrorist State' Amid Attacks on Russian Targets

According to a report by Ukrinform, citing data from the Strategic Communications Center SPRAVDI, Russian propaganda continues to actively disseminate narratives characterizing Ukraine as a 'terrorist state'. This comes in the wake of recent attacks on targets within Russia, triggering a wave of misinformation in Russian media.

According to a report by Ukrinform, which references data from the Strategic Communications Center SPRAVDI, Russian propaganda is actively spreading narratives that label Ukraine as a 'terrorist state'. This campaign has intensified following recent attacks on Russian territory, which have sparked a significant wave of disinformation across Russian media outlets.

One of the primary focuses of these Russian manipulations has been the accusation that Ukraine has allegedly damaged the infrastructure of the 'Turkish Stream' gas pipeline, which, according to propagandists, poses a threat to an 'energy crisis in Europe'. These accusations are accompanied by claims that Ukraine is supposedly incapable of existing without external assistance and is under 'external control'. Such assertions are being actively promoted across numerous information resources that systematically engage in disinformation.

Data from the Strategic Communications Center indicates that on April 2, approximately 8,700 materials mentioning Ukraine were published across about 130 resources specializing in the spread of misinformation. This points to a coordinated campaign aimed at shaping a negative image of Ukraine in the eyes of the international community.

Furthermore, Russian media are actively disseminating narratives about an alleged 'split' within the European Union and NATO due to their support for Ukraine, while also attempting to highlight the 'weakness' of the European Union. In particular, propagandists are leveraging statements from former U.S. President Donald Trump, who remarked that the U.S. 'should not have intervened in Ukraine', and they are criticizing the Biden administration for 'spending hundreds of billions' to support Ukraine. On April 2 alone, Russian media spread around 500 manipulative publications based on these statements.

In parallel, Russian propagandists are manipulating information regarding incidents involving drone crashes in Finland and the Baltic states, which occurred during operations by Ukraine's Defense Forces in the Leningrad region. These events are being used to foster a negative perception of Ukraine in European countries.

A specific avenue of Russian propaganda involves utilizing FIMI resources to infiltrate the information space of foreign states with accusations against Ukraine of colluding with Brussels and interfering in Hungarian elections. In particular, messages are being circulated about an alleged 'energy blockade' of Hungary and funding for the opposition party 'Tisa', which is also part of an information campaign aimed at undermining trust in Ukraine and its allies.

It is worth noting that previously, Russian propaganda spread a false narrative claiming that pensioners in Kherson were being given pig heads and hooves as 'humanitarian aid'. This case serves as a stark example of how Russian media manipulate facts to achieve their objectives.
