Russian Drone Attacks National Military Memorial Cemetery, Buildings Damaged but No Casualties Reported
A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) has crashed on the grounds of the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC), causing partial damage to infrastructure but fortunately resulting in no injuries or damage to burial sites.
The National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC) has reported the crash of a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), which led to partial damage to an administrative building, water storage tanks, fencing, and other infrastructure elements. According to a statement from the NMMC press service, despite the incident, individuals present at the cemetery were unharmed, and the burial sites remained intact.
This incident occurred on Friday during ceremonies for the burial of unidentified defenders of Ukraine. As noted in the NMMC's statement on social media platform Facebook, Russian forces have once again committed a cynical act of terrorism, attempting to inflict harm not only on the living but also on memorial spaces where Ukrainians honor their heroes.
Before the start of the next ceremony, which was scheduled for the burial of the urn containing the ashes of a Ukrainian hero, the crash of the enemy UAV was recorded in the area where the National Memorial is under construction. Various elements of the infrastructure were partially damaged as a result of the attack; however, due to prompt actions, all attendees were quickly directed to shelters.
Fortunately, no one was injured, and there were no fatalities. The burial sites of our heroes remained unharmed, which is a crucial aspect for the relatives and loved ones of the fallen soldiers.
The NMMC's statement emphasizes that Russia continues to reveal its true nature by attempting to strike at the spaces of memory where Ukrainians honor their defenders. This site symbolizes silence, respect, and dignity, and such acts of aggression cannot break the spirit of the Ukrainian people.
The NMMC assures that all damages will be promptly repaired, and they will continue to fulfill their duty to bid farewell to defenders with dignity and honor every Ukrainian soldier. This incident underscores the importance of protecting the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
