Russian Forces Launch Massive Drone Attack on Ukraine, 147 Drones Destroyed

In a significant escalation of hostilities, the Russian military launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine, deploying 172 strike drones, of which Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted 147.

In the early hours of Thursday, April 2, the armed forces of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation, executed a large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory, utilizing 172 strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various models, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other drones. This information was confirmed by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to military reports, approximately 120 of the drones that targeted Ukrainian positions were specifically Shahed models. This indicates a continuation of Russia's strategy to employ drones for striking critical infrastructure across Ukraine.

In response to this aggression, the Air Forces of Ukraine, in conjunction with anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, actively repelled the aerial assault. By 08:00, Ukrainian air defense had managed to neutralize 147 Russian UAVs of various types, marking a significant success in the fight against the aggressor.

The Air Forces of Ukraine also recorded hits from 22 drones at 12 different locations, along with the debris from downed targets falling in eight other areas. This confirms that the attack was not only massive but also accompanied by serious consequences for infrastructure.

Military officials warned that the aerial attack was ongoing, with several enemy drones still remaining in the sky, causing concern among both the population and military personnel. This situation underscores the necessity for constant readiness among Ukrainian forces to repel similar attacks.

It is also noteworthy that on the night of April 2, Russia conducted an attack on the city of Kharkiv, using six Shahed drones. As a result of these strikes, the Kyiv district of the city suffered damage. Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that the enemy attempted to strike a critical infrastructure facility, leading to fires and the ignition of vehicles.

This attack serves as yet another testament to Russia's aggressive policy towards Ukraine, which has persisted for an extended period. Military experts point out that the use of drones is becoming increasingly popular among Russian forces, presenting new challenges for Ukrainian defense.

In light of these events, Ukrainian authorities are urging the population to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols during air raid alerts. The situation remains tense, and Ukrainian forces continue to work on strengthening their positions and enhancing the effectiveness of air defense.
