Russian Special Services Planned Assassination of Territorial Center Chief in Odesa - SBU
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has revealed a plot by Russian special services to assassinate the head of a regional territorial center in Odesa. The suspect, a jobless resident of Poltava, was recruited by Russians while searching for easy money in Telegram channels.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has announced the uncovering of a plan by Russian special services aimed at the assassination of the head of one of the regional territorial centers for recruitment (TCK) in Odesa. The individual arrested in connection with this plot is an unemployed resident of Poltava, who was recruited by Russian operatives during his search for quick earnings through Telegram channels.
Upon recruitment, the agent was dispatched to Odesa, where he received geolocation information for a cache from the Federal Security Service (FSB). From this cache, he retrieved an F-1 hand grenade, an AK-47 assault rifle, and 30 rounds of ammunition. In the hotel room where he was staying, the arrested individual tested the operability of the obtained weapons and reported his findings to his Russian handler.
After receiving confirmation of the weapon's functionality, the agent was given a new task: to place the weapons in a new cache. Following reconnaissance of the area, he concealed the armaments in garbage containers located in the central park of Odesa and sent the corresponding coordinates to the FSB.
The subsequent plans of the Russian special services involved recruiting a potential killer who would use this weaponry to carry out an assassination attempt on a military official. Should the operation prove successful, the enemy hoped to expand the list of victims, thereby striking a blow against the Ukrainian authorities.
However, SBU employees uncovered the Russians' intentions in advance, documented the agent's crimes, and arrested him at his residence in Poltava, where he had returned after completing his assignment. During searches of the suspect's home, a smartphone was seized, which he used to communicate with the Russian operative. The identity of this handler has already been established.
SBU investigators have informed the detainee of his suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 2 of article 111 (treason committed in a state of war) and article 263 (illegal handling of weapons, military supplies, or explosive substances). The indictment in this case has already been forwarded to the court, and the perpetrator faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
Additionally, a suspect has been announced in absentia for the FSB handler, whose actions have been classified as preparation for a terrorist act, an attempted intentional murder, as well as illegal handling of weapons and military supplies. Comprehensive measures are currently underway to hold him accountable.
It is worth noting that earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained an FSB agent who was preparing an assassination attempt in Kyiv on one of the leaders of the Federation of Employers of Ukraine. These events highlight the activity of Russian special services on Ukrainian territory and their attempts to destabilize the situation in the country.
