Russian Shelling on April 4 Leads to Casualties Among Children and Adults in Sumy Region

On April 4, Russian strikes in the Sumy region resulted in injuries to 19 children, according to the regional military administration. The attacks involved a variety of weapons, including mortars, artillery, drones, and guided bombs.

As a result of Russian strikes on the Sumy region on April 4, 19 children were reported injured. This information was provided by the regional military administration (OVA), which detailed that the Russian Federation employed mortars, artillery, FPV drones, unmanned aerial vehicles, guided aviation bombs, and missile strikes in their assaults.

In the Sumy community, children were injured due to a drone attack during the night of April 4, though the exact number of child casualties is still being confirmed. Additionally, a 52-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman sustained injuries from Russian drone attacks that occurred during the day on April 4.

In the Popivka community, a 65-year-old woman was injured due to a missile strike, and a 66-year-old woman also suffered injuries. In the Sveska community, a 69-year-old man was wounded when a drone struck his car. The drone also hit a vehicle in the Hlukhiv community, resulting in injuries to a 25-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man.

From the morning of April 4 to the morning of April 5, Russian forces conducted over 60 shellings across 35 populated areas in the Sumy region. The highest number of attacks was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts. During this period, air raid alerts in the region lasted for 23 hours and 6 minutes.

On the night of April 4, Russian forces launched a series of strikes on the city of Sumy. Strike drones targeted a 16-story building and private residential areas. Following this nighttime attack, the number of injured individuals in Sumy rose to 13, as reported by the Sumy City Council.

The authorities noted that residents of the burning high-rise building were evacuated promptly. This situation once again underscores the scale and brutality of the attacks that Russian forces continue to carry out on Ukrainian territory, particularly in the Sumy region.
