Russian Army Launches Massive Attack on Ukraine Using 119 Drones

In a significant escalation of hostilities, the Russian Armed Forces conducted a large-scale aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 119 strike drones of various types, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, on the night of April 9.

In the early hours of Thursday, April 9, the military of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation, executed a comprehensive aerial attack on Ukraine, utilizing a total of 119 strike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of different types, as confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Air Force.

According to military sources, approximately 70 of the drones involved in the attack on Ukrainian territory were identified as Shahed drones. This indicates that the Russian army continues to actively employ these UAVs to conduct aggressive operations against Ukrainian cities and villages.

To counter the aerial assault, Ukrainian forces deployed aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups from the Ukrainian Defense Forces. As of 08:00 AM on April 9, Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralized 99 Russian UAVs of various types, highlighting the effectiveness of the military's response in this situation.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also reported that 16 drones were confirmed to have struck 11 different locations, with debris from the downed targets falling in four additional areas. This underscores the seriousness of the situation and the risks posed to the civilian population as a result of such attacks.

Military officials have warned that the aerial assault is ongoing, with several enemy drones still present in the sky, causing concern among the local population. On the night of April 9, Russia particularly intensified its attacks on the Zaporizhzhia region, where residential areas came under fire.

As a result of these attacks, the Zaporizhzhia district experienced at least eight strikes, leading to injuries to a woman and damage to private homes in the village of Balabine. These incidents further illustrate how Russian military forces relentlessly continue to inflict harm on civilians, disregarding international norms and human rights.

The situation in Ukraine has raised serious concerns not only among Ukrainians but also within the international community, which is closely monitoring developments in the region. Military experts note that Russia's active use of drones indicates new tactical approaches in the war, which could have far-reaching implications for security across Europe.

Consequently, the situation remains tense, and the Ukrainian armed forces continue to work diligently to protect their territory and population from aggression by Russia. It is crucial for the international community to support Ukraine in its struggle for independence and security.
