Russian Airstrike Hits Community in Sumy Region - One Dead, Three Injured

A Russian airstrike on the Shostka community in the Sumy region resulted in one fatality and three injuries, according to Oleg Grygorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, who shared the news via his Telegram channel.

In a tragic incident on April 2, 2023, Russian military forces launched an airstrike on the Shostka community in the Sumy region, leading to the death of one individual and injuries to three others. Oleg Grygorov, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported the details on his Telegram channel, as conveyed by Ukrinform.

Grygorov indicated that the enemy targeted the area with guided aerial bombs. Unfortunately, there is confirmed information regarding one deceased person, whose identity is currently being established. Among the injured, a 29-year-old woman is reported to be in serious condition and has been transported to the hospital for urgent medical care.

Medical personnel are providing necessary assistance to the victims, and doctors are doing everything possible to stabilize their conditions. This incident serves as yet another grim reminder of the dangers posed by Russian airstrikes to the civilian population.

Additionally, the Sumy City Military Administration reported new attacks by Russian forces that occurred on the morning of April 3. Specifically, drone strikes were recorded in the city of Sumy, hitting the Kovpakivskyi district and the central part of the city. These attacks resulted in damage to non-residential buildings and vehicles. However, according to the administration, there were no fatalities or injuries reported from these drone strikes.

According to a report from the Sumy police, on April 2, Russian troops shelled 29 populated areas within the region. Investigative teams and explosives experts were deployed to the sites to examine and document the aftermath of the shelling.

In the Hlukhiv community, a 39-year-old woman was injured due to an attack by an enemy drone. The assault also caused damage to a gas station building and a shop. In the Shostka, Sumy city, and Bilopillia territorial communities, shelling resulted in damage to both multi-apartment and private houses, as well as to hangars, outbuildings, businesses, and vehicles.

In light of these events, investigators have opened criminal proceedings under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to war crimes. This underscores the seriousness of the situation and the necessity for thorough investigations into all instances of human rights violations during the war.

As reported by Ukrinform, on April 1, Russian forces carried out 53 strikes on 42 populated areas in the Sumy region, resulting in three individuals sustaining injuries. These incidents highlight the ongoing threat faced by the Ukrainian population amid the ongoing conflict.
