Russia Launches 119 Drones Overnight, One Dead, Several Injured Across Ukraine

In a shocking escalation of hostilities, Russia executed a large-scale drone strike against Ukraine during the night of April 9, launching a total of 119 drones. The attack led to the tragic death of one individual and left several others injured across different regions of the country, as reported by local officials.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, by 8:00 AM, they had managed to shoot down or suppress 99 of the drones, which included Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles. However, the assault continued, with at least 16 drones successfully hitting targets in 11 locations. Additionally, debris from intercepted drones fell in four different areas, posing further risks to civilians.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, the morning strike on the Zaporizhzhia district resulted in one fatality, while four others sustained injuries, as confirmed by the regional head, Ivan Fedorov. The attack caused significant destruction, including the demolition of several private homes in the village of Balabine.

Meanwhile, in the Odesa region, Russian drone strikes damaged energy infrastructure, as noted by regional governor Oleg Kiper. An energy facility was struck during the evening assault, followed by additional nighttime strikes that inflicted damage on critical infrastructure. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and emergency services are currently working to mitigate the aftermath of the attacks.

Ukraine's largest private energy company, DTEK, reported that a substation in Odesa sustained severe damage as a result of the drone assault. Repair crews are assessing the extent of the damage and will commence restoration efforts as soon as safety conditions allow. Power outages are anticipated throughout the region, with scheduled limitations being implemented in accordance with directives from the national power grid operator, Ukrenergo.

In the Sumy region, two civilian vehicles were damaged by a drone strike within a local community, injuring a woman who received medical assistance on the scene, according to regional authorities.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, two individuals were injured due to repeated attacks across three districts, as reported by regional head Oleksandr Hanzha. The strikes resulted in damage to residential buildings, shops, and vehicles.

In the Kherson region, a 71-year-old man was injured as a result of a drone strike on a populated area. This incident underscores the severity of the situation in Ukraine, where military operations continue, and civilians remain at risk.

This latest attack serves as yet another indication of the escalating conflict that has persisted for over a year. Ukrainian authorities continue to urge the international community for support and assistance, as the situation on the front lines remains tense, and civilian casualties are an ongoing reality for many Ukrainians.
