The drone assault began around 6 PM on Wednesday, with the enemy deploying various types of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and others. These drones were launched from several locations including Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Hvardiyiske in Crimea.
Approximately 120 of the drones involved in this attack were identified as Shahed models, which have been a common feature in previous assaults. The Ukrainian defense forces employed a multi-faceted response to this aerial threat, utilizing aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups to counter the assault.
Preliminary reports indicate that by 8 AM, Ukraine's air defense had successfully shot down or suppressed 147 enemy UAVs of various types across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country. This highlights the ongoing effectiveness of Ukraine's air defense systems in the face of continuous aerial threats.
Despite these defensive efforts, there were confirmed hits from 22 strike drones at 12 different locations throughout Ukraine. Additionally, debris from the downed drones was reported to have fallen in 8 locations, raising concerns about potential damage and casualties in those areas.
