Russia Intensifies Attacks on Civilians, Killing 16 and Injuring 86

On April 4, 2026, reports emerged that Russia has ramped up its attacks on the civilian population of Ukraine, resulting in at least 16 deaths and 86 injuries. These events unfold amidst calls from Kyiv for a ceasefire during the Easter holidays.

On April 4, 2026, at 3:51 PM, it was reported that Russia has significantly increased its assaults on the civilian population of Ukraine, leading to a tragic toll of at least 16 fatalities and 86 injuries. This surge in violence coincides with urgent appeals from the Ukrainian capital for a ceasefire to be observed during the upcoming Easter celebrations.

One of the most horrific incidents occurred when a Russian drone struck a market in Nikopol, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, on the morning of April 4. According to information from the Ukrainian Prosecutor General, this attack resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and left 19 others injured.

Simultaneously, Russian forces targeted a residential area in Kharkiv, injuring five people, as reported by the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office. Olexandr Handzi, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration, revealed that during the night, Russian strikes in the Dnipropetrovsk region injured a five-month-old infant, a six-year-old boy, and a 41-year-old woman as the fire spread to neighboring areas.

Another Russian drone hit an apartment in Sumy during a massive nighttime assault. Overall, the Sumy City Council reported 13 injuries, including that of a 15-year-old girl. The day prior, on April 3, Russian airstrikes on Kramatorsk in the Donetsk region claimed the lives of six people and injured ten, targeting residential buildings, businesses, and critical infrastructure, as stated by the head of the Donetsk Regional Administration, Vadim Filashkin.

Russian forces launched attacks on 11 districts of the Kharkiv region, including the city of Kharkiv itself, employing glide bombs and drones on April 3 and 4. This wave of assaults resulted in four deaths and 11 injuries, as reported by Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Administration. Additionally, on April 3, Russian attacks in the Kherson region led to one death and 25 injuries, noted Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

These attacks are occurring just days before the celebration of Easter by Catholics and Protestants, scheduled for April 5. The Eastern Orthodox Easter will be observed on April 12 this year. President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a ceasefire during the religious holidays, but Moscow's response has been to escalate its attacks.

Last month, Russia conducted one of its largest aerial campaigns, recording a staggering 6,500 drone attacks and nearly 8,000 dropped glide bombs. Following a conversation with the Pope, Zelensky remarked, "The Russians have only intensified their attacks and, instead of silence in the skies, are escalating violence during Easter."
