Russia Attacks Kyiv Region: Approximately 20 Animals Killed

On April 3, 2023, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukrainian territory, striking the Kyiv region and resulting in the tragic death of around 20 animals at a veterinary clinic.

On April 3, 2023, Russia conducted a large-scale assault on Ukraine, targeting various regions, including the Kyiv area. One of the strikes occurred near a veterinary clinic in Chabany, leading to devastating consequences for the animals being treated there.

The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnikov, reported that approximately 20 animals lost their lives due to the attack. "As a result of the strike, animals were affected—about 20 animals died due to damage to the veterinary clinic," Kalashnikov stated in his message.

Earlier reports on social media indicated that the explosion took place near the veterinary clinic in Chabany, where animals were receiving treatment and were in temporary care. This information was confirmed by the State Emergency Service (SES), which highlighted the seriousness of the situation.

"Rescuers fought for every life: they conducted emergency evacuations of the injured animals from the damaged building, provided oxygen to the affected pets, and attempted to stabilize the condition of the wounded patients. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, not all could be saved," the SES reported, emphasizing the difficult circumstances faced by the rescuers.

As of 12:55 PM on April 3, one fatality and eight injuries had been recorded, including a child. Mykola Kalashnikov also noted that the consequences of the attack were being documented in the Bucha, Fastiv, and Obukhiv districts. Damaged properties included private homes, apartment buildings, vehicles, administrative buildings, and other structures.

On the morning of April 3, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine, employing strike drones and cruise missiles launched from strategic bombers. Explosions were heard not only in the Kyiv region but also in Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, and Zhytomyr regions.

The head of the communications department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, reported that since the night, Russia had launched over 400 drones towards Ukraine. However, this statistic is not final, and the number of attacks may vary.

This tragedy serves as yet another reminder that the war in Ukraine not only claims human lives but also inflicts harm on animals, who are also suffering from the consequences of military actions. Authorities and rescuers continue to work on mitigating the aftermath of the attack and providing assistance to those affected.
